A joint private memorial service has been held for Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds in their Beverly Hills compound in Los Angeles.
Meryl Streep, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gwyneth Paltrow, Meg Ryan, Courtney Love and Billie Lourd’s rumoured boyfriend Taylor Lautner were all in attendance for the gathering of their nearest and dearest.
Reynolds’s son and Fisher’s younger brother Todd Fisher told ABC’s 20/20 that he’d been planning the joint service with his niece and Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd.
According to People, Lourd wanted the gathering to be reminiscent of the parties Fisher often threw in her home: “Billie wanted the people her mother loved to gather in that living room one last time,” a family source said.
Guests reportedly ate Fisher’s usual party food: fried chicken and cornbread.
“The only things missing were Carrie and Debbie,” the family insider continued. “Debbie would sit in the corner, and everyone there would come up and pay homage. Even the biggest stars were starstruck by her. Carrie would walk around barefoot with a can of Coca-Cola, making sure everyone was having a good time, saying the funniest things you’ve ever heard.”
It comes as details of their final resting places have been revealed.
Fisher’s body was recently cremated and it’s understood she and Reynolds will be buried side-by-side and “among friends,” including Bette Davis and Liberace at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles. TMZ reported some of Fisher’s ashes will be placed into Reynolds’s coffin.
Fisher and Reynolds died last week, one day apart. Fisher, who had suffered a medical emergency on December 23 aboard a flight from London, died on December 27 at the age of 60, with Reynolds passing away a day late age 84 from a stroke. She was making funeral arrangements for Fisher at the time.
“She didn’t die of a broken heart. She just left to be with Carrie,” Todd Fisher told ’20/20.’
The family is also understood to be planning a public memorial for people to pay tribute to the legendary actresses and Meryl Streep will read the keynote eulogy.
Fitting tributes for two extraordinary women.
