Princess Mary's royal twins countdown!

As the princess prepares for the arrival of her long-awaited babies, word is she and Frederik will be able to take them home for Christmas.

While Princess Mary hasn’t let her regular medical check-ups and scans slow her down, Woman’s Day can reveal that the estimated arrival of her twins has been brought forward by several weeks.

And while she awaits their imminent birth, husband Prince Frederik has told Danish reporters his wife spends time “singing to the twins” as he goes about more official duties.

Although the babies are officially due in January, doctors at Copenhagen University Hospital are on call, and palace insiders are reporting that Mary and Frederik could be celebrating Christmas with four children.

For the past month, Mary’s medical team – all of them involved with the births of her first children, Prince Christian and Princess Isabella – have been on high alert and Dr Morten Hedegaard, head of obstetrics and a specialist in premature deliveries, is living in an apartment attached to the hospital so he can be at the royal delivery room with just minutes’ notice.

He will again be assisted by midwives Birgitte Hillerup and Mette Simonsen, and newcomer to the team Agnete Norrelund (who found fame in Denmark recently on a reality TV show called Mission Baby), along with Professor Peter Damm, all of whom must stay in Copenhagen and refrain from drinking alcohol until Mary goes into labour, so they can be in the delivery room, and up to the task, within 30 minutes.
