In an interview published in the July issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly, the former Olympic swimmer and wife of Prince Albert tells Carla Bardelli that rumours of her fleeing before the royal wedding were totally false.
“This was incomprehensible,” she says. “I was here at the palace, dealing with the final preparations. When they told me what was rumoured, I started laughing: where could I flee?” Princess Charlene adds.
“I imagine I could even have been found on the moon. In fact, it was a difficult time for everyone. I prayed a lot then, I used common sense and I remembered why I was there. I was there because I had chosen to marry Prince Albert. And I chose to marry him because I love him and wanted to be with him forever.”
The 36-year-old who announced her pregnancy last month also reveals what it’s really like to be a Grimaldi.
“Sharing your life with a person means accepting not only the benefits, the moments of joy, but also the difficulties which come with a role like mine,” she says.
