“Dr” Karl Kruszelnicki, the renowned author, presenter, podcaster and science commentator, is a household name.
With an IQ of 110 (which he states is ‘barely above average’), Dr Karl has become a household name for making complicated scientific issues accessible to even the most layman among us.
We’re used to seeing the charismatic 68-year-old as a bald, bespeckled man with an affable toothy grin, always sporting a flamboyantly printed shirt and a contagious enthusiasm for the world’s most significant questions.
A Facebook photo of a young Dr Karl has jaws dropping around the nation, the voice of Dr Karl’s science hour sports a mop of hair and a smouldering gaze – and is, dare we say it – devastatingly handsome.
The photo was shared on Triple J Breakfast’s Facebook page and captioned, “Cop this! It’s young Dr Karl Kruszelnicki what a hunk 😍”

“I wonder if he always spoke like he does now cos that face does not suit the voice,” one fan ponders.
Speaking to Ben and Liam, the hosts of Triple J Breakfast, Dr Karl reveals the photo was taken in his early 20’s.
“The photo is from when I was in my early twenties, sitting on top of Mount Keira having a cup of coffee with my parents on Boxing Day as the Sydney to Hobart yachts went by,” he explained.
He also has a sage word of advice for people in their early 20’s.
“Enjoy that window where you are allowed to go and strut your stuff and just be confident in yourself.”
