Palace confirms when royal baby is due

Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, will welcome their first child – and the world’s most eagerly anticipated baby – in July, St James’s Palace has announced.

“’Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July,” the Palace said in a statement.

While their child is expected to arrive in mid-July, if the third in line to the British throne arrives early, he or she could share the same birthday as William’s mother Princess Diana, who was born on July 1.

Catherine, who recently turned 31, suffered a severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum during the early stages of her pregnancy, but now that she is 13 to 14 weeks, the worst is believed to be over.

“The Duchess’s condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month,” the palace confirmed.

Catherine has continued to curtail her public engagements while she recovers. Both Catherine and William will be out of the spotlight for the foreseeable future, with Kate resting as much as she can and William carrying on with his day job as a search-and-rescue pilot.
