Dianne Weist might be a two-time Oscar winning star but the actress has revealed that she is struggling to pay her rent.
Dianne, 66, has had a widely-respected acting career that has spanned over 40 years and has seen her awarded with not one, but two Academy Awards, but as the star revealed in an interview with The New York Times, talent doesn’t necessarily money.
“I have to move out of my apartment soon,” Dianne said.
The star of Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway is currently returning to her theatrical roots – starring in critically acclaimed play ‘Rasheeda Speaking’ on Broadway, but she says that she struggles to find enough work to pay the rent in New York City.
At this stage of her career, Dianne says she just doesn’t get offered the rich and rewarding roles that she would hope for: “a nice mom and that’s it. That’s all that ever came, except in theater.”
Many other actresses, including Dianne’s co-star Tonya Pinkins, have taking to creating their own roles rather than waiting around to be offered the kind of meaty, challenging parts that their younger counterparts would have received.
For Dianne, though she feels less enthused about carving out those kinds of roles on her own, preferring to wait for the right thing to come along.
“I think that if it’s meant to happen, it will happen,” Dianne said. “Which is I guess a real sign of stupidity.”
