While the nominations haven’t been revealed just yet, the bookies are already putting their money on the 46-year-old’s groundbreaking performance.

The film, which first garnered the attention of critics when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year, is set in 1950s New York and sees Cate play a wealthy, married woman who indulges in an affair with a younger shop assistant, played by Rooney Mara.

The 46-year-old already has two Oscar wins to her name for her roles in Blue Jasmine and The Aviator.

Can she make it a winning trifecta and add another statuette to her already jam-packed trophy cabinet? We’ll have to wait until February next year when the Oscars light up Hollywood.
