Excited Oprah plans to embrace all Australia has to offer during her trip.
It’s the “royal” visit that has everybody buzzing: TV queen Oprah Winfrey is bringing her show – and 300 devoted fans – to Australia … and there’s every chance she won’t want to leave.
Oprah will hit our shores on December 8 and spend eight days in the country. “I can’t tell you how excited we are to be able to come Down Under,” she told Aussies after the trip was announced.
“I’m excited about there being a female Prime Minister – maybe I could meet her. Hugh Jackman – I love him a lot … and the little Irwin girl.” Organisational expert Peter Walsh, who has worked on Oprah’s show for four years, says, “She’s always said, ‘Australia is the place I’d love to see.’” And Peter is convinced she won’t want to leave.
“One of the things she might learn is the relaxing Australian style. My suspicion is that Australia will seduce her enough for her to put her feet up and stay longer than a week,” he says.
Oprah will film two episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House, and famous Aussies including Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Simon Baker, Cate Blanchett, Baz Luhrmann, Jamie Durie, Curtis Stone and Sophie Delezio are touted to be guests. “It would be a great honour to be associated with Oprah,” says Sophie’s dad, Ron Delezio. “I believe she’s a good woman.”
