Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett, 66, has confirmed he has left his wife of 42 years, Trish. According to news.com.au he has left his marriage to pursue a relationship with with a 50-year-old secretary, Dale Tynan.
While he released the following official statement on the weekend confirming his split with Trish, he has not spoken publicly about a new relationship.
“As an NRL head coach and thereby a public figure I today inform you about a personal matter and the fact I have separated from my wife and the family home some time ago,” Bennett said.
“I will continue to appear publicly in my role at the Brisbane Broncos but at the same time ask that you respect my personal privacy and that of my family.”
News.com.au says Bennett’s family, which includes two disabled children and a married daughter, Elizabeth, are devastated by the news. The reports add that he has moved in with his new love, and the $2 million apartment he shared with his wife is now up for rent.
Ms Tynan was the secretary of Newcastle’s club doctor and the pair met during his three-year tenure as Knights coach from 2012 to 2014.
