Suri Cruise’s love of makeup, high heels and designer clothes is infamous, but the six-year-old’s diva days are reportedly numbered.
Katie Holmes is said to be determined that Suri lead a more “normal” life to make her transition to school easier.
Suri has been enrolled at New York’s prestigious Convent of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls Catholic school, and Katie doesn’t want her daughter to stand out and become a target for bullies.
Katie is reportedly clearing Suri’s extensive closet and cosmetics drawer, turning down all designer freebies and ordering in more “age-appropriate” items from chain stores.
“Katie has been returning unsolicited gifts and loans from designers for Suri since she arrived in New York,” a source told Reveal magazine.
“She’s issued instructions to remove Suri from all freebie lists. She’s also put the word out in LA to stop any mini-me diva products being sent her way. Tom loved to spoil Suri and indulge her, but Katie has other ideas.”
Suri was first photographed wearing high heels and lipstick when she was three years old.
Tom has frequently defended his daughter’s controversial fashion choices, saying his encouraged her to wear whatever she wanted.
“In Spain, they wear the high-heeled flamenco dance shoes form birth,” he told Britain’s GMTV in 2009.
“Listen, I believe that she should wear whatever she wants to wear. She dresses herself. I want to encourage her creativity and her own self-expression. I think that’s important for the child’s own identity.”
Tom’s approach is consistent with his religion Scientology, which encourages parents to treat children like adults and allow them to make their own decisions about everything from what they eat to what they wear.
