Nigella Lawson’s private life has taken another tragic twist.
Phoebe Saatchi, the 18-year-old daughter of estranged husband Charles, has publicly declared that Nigella abandoned her.
In June, shocking pictures emerged of the famous 53-year-old British chef being choked by her husband Charles, 70, at a popular London restaurant.
When the photos surfaced in the media, Nigella withdrew from the public eye and refused to give a statement.
She maintained her silence even after Charles was cautioned by police for assault and then tried to claim the photographs merely depicted a “playful tiff.”
In July, Charles filed for divorce, citing disappointment that Nigella hadn’t publicly defended him and thus contributed to his tarnished reputation.
The couple shared their home with Phoebe and with Nigella’s two children, Cosima and Bruno.
Following her father’s outspoken lead, Phoebe, who was previously close to Nigella, has phoned British newspaper the Daily Mail to denounce her stepmother.
“Nigella has not spoken to me since she left our house on that Sunday when the newspaper story appeared. She has behaved in a very cold-hearted way. She has been my mother since I was seven or eight and has just abandoned me.”
The Daily Mail has since revealed that Phoebe also made criminal allegations against Nigella, which they chose not to publish on the grounds they were unsubstantiated.
For now, Nigella has chosen to maintain her dignified silence.
