Women want to be her, men want to be with her. But who’d trade places with Nigella Lawson now?
A s a smart, sexy TV cook and author, she’s earned the admiration of millions around the world. At 53, Nigella Lawson, a domestic goddess in looks and attitude, has built a private fortune making the enjoyment of food look finger-licking good. She loves her curves, and we love her for it.
Now, we’ve seen the other Nigella – a weeping wreck of a woman at the hands of her overbearing husband. That twinkle in her eye was replaced with a look of fear as her 70-year-old husband Charles Saatchi held her by the throat during an argument at an upmarket London restaurant.
It’s hard to believe the two are the same woman. While Charles has accepted a caution from London police about his behaviour and Nigella has fled the family home, the shocking incident has raised questions about what happens in their home, behind closed doors.
The couple moved in together just nine months after the death of her first husband from cancer in 2001. Nigella herself has given a revealing insight into their turbulent relationship, saying: “I’ll go quiet when he explodes, and then I am a nest of horrible festeringness.”
