Nigella on the way to quickie divorce

Nigella Lawson’s divorce from Charles Saatchi is on the fast track after the High Court in London found that their marriage can be legally ended.

In a hearing that lasted less than a minute, District Judge Anne Aitken issued a “decree nisi” to conditionally approve the couple’s divorce.

Neither Nigella or Charles were present for the ruling.

Official court papers lodged by Nigella on July 9 cited “continuing unreasonable behaviour” by her husband as the reason for petitioning for divorce.

The documents also show that an “order for financial relief” has been approved between the two parties, meaning that they have probably reached a financial settlement in private.

It is thought that the pair kept their respective fortunes in order to make the divorce proceedings as smooth and quick as possible.

Yesterday’s ruling came seven weeks after shocking pictures emerged of Saatchi apparently choking Nigella at a London restaurant.

Saatchi, 70, and Lawson, 53, will now have to wait for a “decree absolute”, which is usually issued within six weeks, to officially end their 10-year marriage.
