Nigella Lawson has been spotted leaving her London home with a suitcase in hand after pictures were released of her apparently being choked by her husband.
Photographs of the UK-based foodie were published in Sunday People showing Nigella, 53, and her husband, 70-year-old Charles Saatchi, dining at popular celebrity restaurant Scott’s, in central London. In the series of disturbing images, Charles is seen reaching across the table and appears to grab her by the throat a number of times. Nigella appears fearful throughout the ordeal and leaves the restaurant crying.
Following the publication of the pictures, Nigella and Bruno, her teenage son from her first marriage, were spotted leaving the multi-million dollar mansion they share with Charles. She also has a daughter, Cosima, 19.
Witnesses who were dining at the restaurant when the incident took place said Nigella looked frightened.
“It was utterly shocking to watch,” one diner told Sunday People.
“I have no doubt she was scared. It was horrific, really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes.”
During the altercation, none of the diners intervened. A police spokesman said Lawson had not filed a complaint with police.
“Officers from the Community Safety Unit at Westminster are aware of the Sunday People article. Enquires are in hand to establish the facts of the incident,” the spokesman said.
