They’ve been besties for years, but can their friendship survive a career clash?
When best friends work in the same industry, it’s not uncommon for a little career competitiveness to emerge. And that just might be what’s happening with Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts.
Nicole, who took home a Best Actress Oscar in 2003, wasn’t willing to go the extra mile to boost Naomi’s Oscar chances this year, say US reports. The New York Daily News claims Nic refused to film a 60 Minutes segment to promote Naomi’s critically aclaimed role in tsunami movie The Impossible.
“[Nicole] declined. Clearly she’s not inclined to help her friend because she’s jealous she’s not in this year’s Oscar spotlight,” snipes a showbiz insider. “It was a ‘No’ right off the bat. She could have made time if she wanted to.” The TV story was supposed to air ahead of the Oscar vote, with insiders tipping it would’ve upped Naomi’s chances of taking home the Best Actress statue, but is now unlikely to go ahead without Nicole’s five-minute interview.
However, a source close to Nic, who’s currently in Australia with husband Keith Urban and their two daughters, insists her brush-off wasn’t deliberate: “She couldn’t do it because of her schedule. It was a last-minute thing. Nicole and Naomi are best friends.”
