Nicole Kidman talks about the “rage” she experienced after filming Big Little Lies

“I went home and I threw a rock through a glass door.”

Nicole Kidman’s portrayal of a domestic abuse victim on HBO’s Big Little Lies left a lasting impression on viewers (and, fingers crossed, Emmy Award voters), and so too, it seems, the much-loved actress.

“I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, being in my underwear and having just been really thrown around,” the 49-year-old said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I just lay on the floor. I couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to get up. And I remember Jean-Marc [Vallée, the show’s director] coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes because I was just like…I just felt completely humiliated and devastated.”

She added: “And angry inside.”

During the roundtable interview — which also included Oprah Winfrey, Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Lange and Chrissy Metz — Nicole’s co-star in the HBO show, Reese Witherspoon, recalled the Aussie-darling calling her after a long and confronting day of shooting.

“We were staying at a hotel and she called me and she says, ‘I’ve just done the craziest thing.’ She got home from work and she had one of these horrible scenes and she goes, ‘I couldn’t get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window.’ And she goes, ‘I don’t do stuff like that.’”

The mother-of-four previously revealed she was “ covered in deep, massive bruises” after filming the violent scenes, which distressed her beloved husband Keith Urban.

“He was devastated seeing it but then he would say, ‘But I have an artist wife!’” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

There’s no official word yet on whether or not a second season of the hit drama will hit our television screens, but the cast continue to drop some very telling hints — including Nicole, who, by the way, co-produced the series.

“If the storyline could be powerful and compelling,” she said during a recent chat with Variety.

“If there is a way to form these women’s lives further, that’s really interesting. It would be so lovely if we could do it.”

Meanwhile, fellow BLL co-star Laura Dern, who played Renata, told Us Weekly that there has been talk about season two.

“There’s curiosities, so it would certainly be a pleasure to get to do it more,” she said. “I love my character so much, so it would be a blast.”

Despite the cast’s enthusiasm for a second season, not all involved want to see the story opened up again.

Jean-Marc Vallee, the director of the show, has shot down the idea of another go around.

“To do a season two, I’m not for it,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Big Little Lies two? Nah. We won’t give you a season two because it’s so good like this. Why spoilt it.”
