“I was so young,” she says of the period she was married to Tom Cruise for more than ten years from 1990.

Since marrying Urban in 2006 and completing their family with two children, she tells the magazine she has found happiness.

“I feel like I’m in the place I’m meant to be, with the person I’m meant to be with. And you, know, with no disrespect to what I had with Tom, I’ve met my great love now.”

Nicole says she took some time to find that “great love” because she wasn’t sure if she wanted to “jump from one relationship to another”.

“I had a lot of time alone, which was really, really good, because I was a child, really, when I got married. And I needed to grow up.”

Now settled in Nashville with her country music star husband and their two girls Faith, three, and Sunday, five, Kidman says she has found happiness.

Opening up about the sacrifices she has made for her family, including uprooting her Hollywood life and the pressures that come with a high profile marriage, the academy award-winner focuses on the rewards of her new lifestyle.

“I’m now willing to be in a different place because I want this, and I want it to work,” she says.

“There is an enormous amount you have to give up if you want to have a family. You can have a certain career but you can’t be living in Hollywood [where] absolutely everything, everything revolves around it.

“That wasn’t my choice. I’d rather revolve around somebody else’s career and then still find my own.”

She also revealed the parenting pressures the couple has endured, bringing up “an enormous amount of personal things in terms of history and your own life”, but says some things about family life she has found “very, very healing”.

Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Kelly, a woman she describes as making “an enormous mark on the world”, in Grace of Monaco to be released in the new year.
