Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts and Keith Urban make up a new fab four set for Golden Globes domination, with each of the Aussies scoring nominations for their outstanding work in the film industry this year.
Kidman is in the running for two statues, recognised for her confronting performance in The Paperboy, for which she is nominated for best performance by an actress in a supporting role.
She is also nominated for best performance by an actress in a made-for-TV movie or miniseries for her role as Martha Gellhorn in literary series Hemingway & Gellhorn.
“As an actor you look for roles that are rich, complicated, and that stretch you and this year I was blessed to find two,” the actress said in a statement.
“To have the chance to play them was a gift in itself and to then be acknowledged this way is icing on the cake.”
Her husband Keith Urban is a fellow nominee, in the running for best original song with For You from film Act of Valour.
Naomi Watts will compete for best performance by an actress for her lead in The Impossible, a confronting film about the 2004 tsunami hitting Thailand.
And fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman was nominated for best actor in a comedy or musical for his powerful portrayal of lead Jean Valjean in the screen adaptation Les Miserables.
Although it’s already reached critical acclaim weeks ahead of its release date, Les Misérables missed out on a nomination for best movie.
The nominations, considered early indicators for Oscars picks, went to Ben Affleck’s Argo, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
The Golden Globes will air at midday on January 14 Australian time.
