Keith Urban says heartbreaking goodbye to his late dad – but where was wife Nicole Kidman?

The actress – who has endured a tragic year of family losses - was noticeably absent from Robert Urban’s funeral.

When Nicole Kidman’s father Antony passed away last year, her husband Keith Urban was a pallbearer at his funeral, and enveloped his distraught wife in a protective hug as the coffin was lowered into the ground.

It was a truly heartbreaking scene – but also a very touching moment for a woman leaning on her husband when she needed him the most.

Yesterday, it was sadly Keith’s turn to lay his own beloved dad Robert to rest in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast.

Amid the sadness of Bob’s death – which was expected, after a long battle with prostate cancer – there was one baffling element to the funeral that represented Keith’s dad so well – Nicole was nowhere to be seen.

An ashen Keith attended his dad’s service in Caloundra alone.

Keith flew into Brisbane alone earlier this week, however his wife, nor their children Sunday, 7, or Faith, 4, weren’t in attendance.

In his sombre black suit and tie, Keith cut a solitary figure at the service. He arrived at the wheel of his dad’s beloved Lincoln Continental, flanked by Bob’s mates on growling motorcycles.

The scene was a far cry from when Dr Antony Kidman was laid to rest in September last year after passing away suddenly in Singapore, when Nicole was flanked by Keith and her daughters at a Sydney church.

It was a tough year for the Kidmans. In April, Nicole’s sister Antonia was left devastated when her ex-husband and father of her children Angus Hawley died.

And again, when the A-list actress rushed to Sydney from her home in Nashville to comfort her sister, Keith was faithfully by her side.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Nicole and her daughters were “too grief-stricken” to attend their “Poppy Bob’s” funeral after such a traumatic year.

While it’s unclear where in the world Nicole and her daughters are at the moment, speculation is that she’s ensconced in her and Keith’s Nashville home.

In a statement last week, Keith said, “I’ve been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that [Nicole Kidman] and I, and our family, have received since my dad’s passing. His long battle with cancer is now over and he is finally at peace.”

Rest in peace, Robert Urban.
