Nick Cannon has released a telling new track while hitting back at reports that he’s been holding up the proceedings for his divorce from estranged wife Mariah Carey.
In the freestyle rap titled Divorce Papers, the America’s Got Talent host pours his heart out about their split as well as how it’s affected his five-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan.
Speaking to Genius, Nick revealed he wrote the song to vent his frustrations towards lawyers who he believes “cause most of the friction”.
“I was like, ‘You want Divorce Papers? Well here you go!'” the father-of-two said.
“The lawyer’s line was also me releasing a little frustration at the attorneys on both sides because lawyers always think they control the clients and they cause most of the friction, especially since my ex and I get along.”
In the track, the father-of-two also touches on the heartbreaking effects the split has had on his relationship with his two children.
“There is nothing more painful than parting with or having to drop your children off,” he said.
“One day as my daughter was giving me a hug goodbye my eyes welled up and she looked at me and said, ‘Daddy, why do you have tears in your eyes?’ and I told her it was because I love her.”
“She understood. She is a genius. She just hugged me harder and said ‘I love you, too’. Waterworks!”
The song comes after reports surfaced claiming Nick had been refusing to sign the divorce papers, thus preventing his ex to marry her billionaire beau, James Packer.
But now that the papers have indeed been signed, James and Mariah will be able to go ahead with their lavish wedding – said to cost a whopping $100 million – later this year.
