Nate Myles has been by his wife’s side during one of the scariest ordeals of her life, her battle with cancer. After Tessa was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the actress endured six months of chemotherapy to beat the aggressive cancer.
And now the 29-year-old is commending his wife’s strength.
Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph Nate described Tessa’s health scare as “sickening” before adding: “It was not cool what anyone has to go through because of that.”
“She’s tougher than any footballer I have played alongside. There’s a euphoric feeling when you walk off a field sore but for Tess when she was doing her treatment, she didn’t know for a lot of the time if it was a win, if it was helping.”
The former Home And Away actress also addressed how much her husband, who she married in 2011, has helped her through this challenging few months.
“Nate always underplays his support he gives to me. He is my rock,” she told the publication.
The footy player has gone through everything with her, including shaving their heads together. “I was more traumatised than her,” he laughed.
This entire experience has changed the once hot-headed footy player, into someone who is calm and looks at the big picture.
“Let’s be level-headed, let’s be cool about it, because at the end of the day health is wealth.” Nate mused optimistically.
And Nate does take his wife’s health incredibly seriously.
“I probably now listen to her when she says she has a headache. I know for me, without saying, it puts things in perspective, it puts things in tiers of where things are in life,” he said.
Tessa has now wrapped up her treatment and is hoping to eventually return to America, while her hubby is considering who he should play for next season.
“She is a bit undecided [on what club], in a perfect situation it would be an NRL team in LA,” the 29-year-old said.
