Music icon Prince dies age 57

Music legend Prince Rogers Nelson, famous for songs including Little Red Corvette and Purple Rain has died.

Aged just 57, the artists publicist has confirmed police are investigating the death.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning,” publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.

It is understood emergency services found the singer unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park compound in suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The pop icon was hospitalised on April 15 after his private jet was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Moline, Illinois, just hours after a performance in Atlanta, Georgia.

A representative for Prince told TMZ at the time that he had been suffering from a nasty bout of the flu for several weeks. He was treated for three hours before being released and sent home to rest.
