“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” he said on his website.

“We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

“I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her, Mick.”

The Rolling Stones have cancelled their first Australian concert in Perth and have postponed the remainder of their Aussie tour.

Mick, who was “completely shocked and devastated” after hearing the news of L’Wren’s tragic death, has flown back to New York to be with his family.

L’Wren was found by her assistant at her luxurious ninth-floor New York apartment, following an apparent suicide.
