The Rolling Stone’s frontman and his American ballerina girlfriend, Melanie Hamrick are said to be “delighted” at the birth of their son, who arrived on Thursday.

A statement said: “Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger’s son was born today in New York and they are both delighted.

“Mick was at the hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we request that the media respect their privacy at this time.”

Hamrick, 30, is the mother of Jagger’s eight child.

According to reports, Jagger and Hamrick have a very independent relationship.

Mick will likely stay in London, while Melanie is said to quit ballet and return home to Connecticut, US, to be near her family, or move to LA.

“Mick likes the arrangement they have and doesn’t want to be in another formal relationship,” a source told The Sun.

“But the most important thing is how much he loves his children and he has great relations with them. He will support and love this child.”

The source continued: “Mick really respects the fact that she has always been very low key and discreet about their relationship.

“She has always been a maternal person and can’t wait for the next chapter of her life as a mum. Melanie is very excited to become a mum and thinks Mick is the most amazing man she’s ever met.”

Earlier this year, Jagger’s 68-year-old bandmate Ronnie Wood welcomed twins.
