Before Netflix, The OC and the reign of reality TV, there was the unforgettable teen drama, Dawson’s Creek. The six-season series catapulted the careers of actresses Michelle Williams and Katie Holmes, as well as actors James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson and now on the show’s 20th anniversary the Capeside gang are back together.
For the first time since the 2003 finale, the cast have posed together for a special edition cover of Entertainment Weekly.
“I think we’ve all sort of seen each other over the years, but not everybody all together,” Katie Holmes said. “And never for long enough.”
“I run into James and Josh, Katie, Michelle, and I just get a big smile on my face. It’s just a very, very special time in my life,” added Kevin Williamson, the show’s creator.
The iconic series focused on the teen relationships in the tight-knit community of the sleepy fictional town Capeside. The main four leads, Katie Holmes (Joey Potter), James Van Der Beek (Dawson Leery), Joshua Jackson (Pacey Witter), Michelle Williams (Jen Lindley) were joined by the extended cast, Busy Phillips (Audrey Liddell), Kerr Smith (Jack McPhee), Meredith Monroe (Andie McPhee), and Mary Beth Peil (Evelyn “Grams” Ryan) for the interview.
So with the band all back together, could their be a reboot of the cult series? A possible return of the Capeside crew sparked the show’s creator Kevin’s attention, but only on one condition.
“If someone else out there could… I would love to see someone else’s take on it, but I don’t think it’s gonna be me,” he said.
While Michelle added: “I’m dead!” referring to the exit of her character Jen Lindley.
Katie also weighed in with a skeptical take on how the show would be able to exist in modern day.
“What I love about the show is that it existed at a time, pre-social media, pre-internet, and it was nostalgic when we were shooting it,” she said. “And I like that we ended it, and we were all five years older. It does feel like it’s completed.”
While our favourite four may not be returning to our screens anytime soon, you can still relive the teen emotion over and over again as the whole series is streaming on Stan.
