Michael Jackson’s 15-year-old daughter Paris has been hospitalised after a suicide attempt.
Gossip website TMZ reports Paris penned a suicide note before cutting her right wrist with a meat cleaver and taking a large quantity of painkillers.
She then called a suicide hotline and the person who answered her call alerted emergency services who sent an ambulance to the Jackson home in Calabasas, California at around 1.30am.
Paris was taken to hospital where she had “numerous stitches” in her arm and was placed on involuntary psychiatric hold for 72 hours.
The drama unfolded just hours after the teenager posted a series of dark messages on Twitter.
At around midnight Tuesday, she wrote “I wonder why tears are salty” before quoting Beatles song ‘Yesterday’ writing: “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as though they’re here to stay.”
Paris is now recovering in hospital. A statement from Katherine Jackson’s attorney Perry Sanders suggests Paris has been depressed since the death of her father Michael Jackson in 2009.
“Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention,” Sanders told TMZ.
“Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you.”
Jackson brothers Jackie, Marlon and Tito added: “Thank you for the outpouring of concern and support for Paris. She is safe and doing fine. We truly appreciate you respecting our family privacy at this time.”
A lawyer for Paris’ mother, Debbie Rowe, who was married to Michael from 1996 to 1999, thanked everyone for their prayers.
“We appreciate everyone’s thoughts for Paris at this time and their respect for the family’s privacy,” the lawyer said.
Debbie gave up custody of Paris and her older brother Prince Michael I when she divorced Michael but has reconciled with Paris in the past few months.
