The inimitable Meryl Streep has broken her own record for most Oscar nominations ever, earning her 20th nomination for the 2016 Oscars for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins.
The next people to receive the most nominations aren’t even close with Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson having 12 Oscar nominations respectively.
Meryl’s response to her amazing achievement is, well, amazing.
“Please find the following GIF as a statement on behalf of Meryl Streep,” a Paramount publicist wrote in an email following the nomination announcements, attaching this GIF of Meryl dancing in Paul McCartney music video for “Queenie Eye.”
Meryl’s achievement is certainly a proverbial middle finger to new President Donald Trump who called the actress “overrated” after she used her Golden Globes speech to protest
Trump’s supposed treatment of a disabled reporter.
Two Australian movies are nominated for Best Picture for the first time ever: Lion starring Dev Patel and Mel Gibson’s war movie Hacksaw Ridge.
Nicole Kidman is nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in Lion.
