A visibly frustrated Melissa Rivers recalled the pain she felt when the rumours surfaced of her mother’s doctor allegedly taking selfies with the star during her routine throat operation.
“After behaviours that you cannot even begin to get your head around, you get mad,” the Fashion Police producer told US show Today.
In a bid to get some answers, the 47-year-old has filed a lawsuit against the New York hospital that performed her mother’s procedure.
“How about paying attention to the vital signs? How about having a properly equipped crash cart,” the mother-of-one begged.
Before adding: “If something happens and everyone does things properly, things happen, you learn to live with it, but when it’s error, after error…”
Joan’s only daughter then went on to read a touching passage from her new book about her mother’s untimely death.
“I slept on the cot next to my mother’s bed that night with some of the lights still on and the TV blasting, just the way she liked it,” she said of the heartbreaking evening she lost her mother.
“In the morning, when it was time to remove the ventilator, she was surrounded by those who loved her most and whom she loved most. I lay in the bed and held her for a while. And after a few hours, she was finally gone. I didn’t have to tell her I loved her. She knew. She didn’t have to tell me she loved me. I knew,” the funny lady’s daughter concluded.
Melissa and Joan forged an incredible reputation on the red carpet as the ultimate mother-daughter power-house. The pair went on to star in their own reality show Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?, which ran for four seasons until March 2014.
