It’s written all over her face -she’s finally happy! Meet the man responsible for it all.
It’ Katie Holmes as you haven’t seen her in years: blissfully happy, leaning in close to whisper to a handsome bloke, completely oblivious that every pair of eyes in New York’s Madison Square Garden is watching with avid interest. The actress could hardly find a more public place to be seen laughing and chatting with her new friend, and onlookers were soon abuzz with talk that she’d finally found a replacement for her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.
And in some ways, they were right. The dark-haired mystery-man, identified as her new agent, Adam Schweitzer, has become Katie’s go-to guy. Married Adam has become Katie’s new champion, taking her under his wing as she begins phase two of her post-Tom life. “She wants to distance herself from Tom and his Hollywood clout,” an industry insider explains, adding that it’s thought her links to Tom have made her unattractive to casting agents. “So she defected from her longtime agents at Creative Artists, where Tom is also a fixture, and signed with New York uber-agent Adam.”
A new beginning Insiders are describing the move as a stroke of genius after a disappointing year for Katie. “She was really upset when [Broadway show] Dead Accounts abruptly closed in January,” explains a friend. “She had high hopes for making a name as a Broadway actress but it never took off. And it’s not as if she’s been swamped with interesting offers. It’s thought that Tom has something to do with this. He only has to frown slightly for the Hollywood powers to try and second-guess what he’s thinking,” the friend claims.
And that’s where Adam, 36, has been Katie’s knight in shining armour. Once included in the list of the top 35 entertainment executives under 35 by industry bible The Hollywood Reporter, he now heads the agency’s motion picture division, representing the likes of Al Pacino and Christopher Waltz.
