Amid reports he was hospitalised, Matthew Newton parties with Wayne Carey’s ex in LA

Not long after multiple sources confirmed to Woman’s Day that the son of Bert and Patti Newton was being treated in the US after a “psychotic episode” in New York, he’s back on the party scene.

Australian actress Kate Nielsen – famous for once dating AFL playboy Wayne Carey – shared a photo on Twitter of herself with the 38-year-old at West Hollywood bar LP Rooftop last weekend.

Matthew, who starred in Looking For Alibrandi and Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities looks happy and healthy, and does not appear to be drinking in the grainy social media image.

He is rarely seen in public following his infamous Miami arrests in 2012 for trespass and battery.

These legal troubles followed a well-documented history of altercations with ex-girlfriends, including actresses Brooke Satchwell and Rachael Taylor. He suffers from depression and bipolar disorders.

Woman’s Day magazine is exclusively told that he had been placed under psychiatric watch in the US as recently as two weeks ago, and that his parents Bert and Patti are “broken-hearted”.

“Matt’s descent into psychosis is the all-time consuming tragedy of Bert and Patti’s lives,” a source tells the magazine, [on sale Monday.] “It dominates their every minute, even though he isn’t in the same country.”
