Break ups are never easy, but when you can make a bit of a profit they’re not so bad, right?
Well that’s just what Grammy winner and diva extraordinaire Mariah Carey has done as she’s sold the 35 carat engagement ring (worth a whopping $10 million) that was part of the financial settlement made in 2017 following her split from Australian billionaire, James Packer.
Speaking to Page Six, Mariah’s publicist said, “Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity. “That requires leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.”
And to top it all off, the ring was sold for US$2.1 (AUD$2.8 million) to an LA based jeweller, a mere fraction of what it’s worth! Well, that’s probably more than any of our jewellery is worth so we guess she’ll manage.
Mariah and James (Packey? Jariah?) became engaged back in January 2016 and the All I Want For Christmas Is You singer joked that “it’s so heavy I can’t lift my arm up.” Talk about first world problems.
Their whirlwind 18 month romance came to a grinding halt in October 2016 with claims that Packer wasn’t ready for a relationship and that he had doubts about Mimi’s short-lived reality show, Mariah’s World.
Speaking to The Australian in October last year about the split, Packer said, “I was at a low point in my personal life. She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”
Clearly, these two don’t belong together.
