No sign of James? Mariah Carey receives star on Walk of Fame

Mariah turned up dead on time in a glittering dress with her girls out, writes Caroline Overington in Hollywood.

Mariah Carey received her star on the Walk of Fame today – and, for those who need to know, there was no sign of rumoured love interest, James Packer.

Mariah was attended by her four-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, who climbed all over her legs, grabbed the microphone, tugged at their fancy clothes and threw wobblies when other guests tried to distract them or lead them away, so it seems they are just like other kids.

Packer’s business partner, Brett Ratner, was on hand, wearing a suit and the worst pair of beat-up old sneakers you’ve ever seen. He’s worth about a billion dollars so he can certainly afford a new ride, but the sneakers are a trademark.

He also proved the gentleman, helping wrangle the twins and ferrying assorted little old ladies up and down the red carpet.

It was about a million degrees under the Hollywood sun but an estimated 2000 people stood in the heat for an hour, waving posters of Mariah, who turned up dead on time in a glittering dress with her girls out, and a pair of sunglasses.

Mariah Carey is the best-selling female artist of all time. Yes, of all time.

She has sold more than 200 million albums and 17 of her 18 number one hits, she wrote herself.

She’s a multiple Grammy Award winner; she has 21 American Music Awards, and she’s been Billboard’s “Artist of the Decade”.

Lately she’s been playing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; she also wants to make more movies, maybe even with James, who is a partner with Brett Ratner in RatPac Productions.

Of the star, she said it was a “childhood dream come true.”
