Notorious bachelor Quentin Tarantino is engaged to his on-again-off-again Israeli girlfriend, Daniela Pick.
The 54-year-old director reportedly proposed to the 33-year-old in Los Angeles on Friday night, eight years after the two met when he was in Israel to promote Inglorious Basterds.
Pick confirmed the engagement rumours to Ynetnews.com.
“It’s true. We’re very happy and excited,” she said.
Pick is the daughter of famous Israeli musician Svicka Pick, who’s responsible for bangers like this one.
Her father told Israeli magazine Pnai Plus the family was overjoyed at the news.
“Yes, there is joy in our family. They got engaged. We have wished them mazel tov.”
The Beverly Cinema, owned by Tarantino, also tweeted the news.
The announcement is surprising for those who remember Tarantino’s reluctance to ever get married for fears it would distract him from his directing duties.
“Here’s the thing. When I’m doing a movie, I’m not doing anything else. It’s all about the movie. I don’t have a wife. I don’t have a kid. Nothing can get in my way. The whole world can go to hell and burst into flames. I don’t care,” he said in the past.
“This is my life. It’s Mount Everest. If you’re climbing Mount Everest, you’re not doing anything else.”
“All your concerns, all the mundane things, family, any of that, it just disappears. Goes away. It’s mist,” he added.
“It’s just nothing but the mountain, every single solitary day. I’m not saying that I’ll never get married or have a kid before I’m 60.
“But I’ve made a choice, so far, to go on this road alone. Because this is my time. This is my time to make movies.”
Does this mean the director is hanging up his hat?
In 2015, he said he would retire when he had a 10 film filmography, which would leave him with just two more after The Hateful Eight.
“I don’t believe you should stay onstage until people are begging you to get off. I like the idea of leaving them wanting a bit more,” he explained.
“I like that I will leave a 10-film filmography, and so I’ve got two more to go after this. It’s not etched in stone, but that is the plan. If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don’t screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career.”
In any case, congratulations to the happy couple!
