Michael Bublé’s wife, Luisana Lopilato, has opened up about their son Noah’s cancer battle in an emotional sit-down interview.
The actress — who shares Noah, three-and-a-half, and Elias, 17 months, with the singer-songwriter — was in her native Buenos Aires, Argentina, filming Those Who Love Hate, when she first sought treatment for Noah.
Luisana, 30, was initially told her son had mumps and would not require treatment. However, two days later, Noah’s pediatrician informed the actress that the young child had an infection, and a full series of medical tests should be completed.
“After they did the ultrasound, they told me they found something in his belly,” she recalled. “They didn’t know what it was yet, or if it was a tumor, but that day I decided to take a flight [to the United States].”
Unable to reach her husband, who was in England promoting his new album, Nobody But Me, the model made the decision to fly to the United States. She explained that the couple had previously made a pact to meet in Los Angeles should they ever require medical attention — halfway between her family in Argentina and his in Canada.
“Without saying anything to Michael, I took the plane. I took [Noah] to the hospital as soon as I arrived. We have an oncologist, a friend who does not take care of kids, but he saw him,” the Rebelde Way star said. “It was all from God. I don’t know how to explain it. If we hadn’t done that ultrasound to find out if he had mononucleosis, it would have been so much worse.”
Michael and Luisana immediately made the decision to put their careers on hold to focus on the health of their child, and their families flew to Los Angeles to be by their side.

“We did all the tests, and finally, we found out that it was what it was,” she said. “These things, when they happen to you in life, they make you realize that the most important thing isn’t what you thought it was — it’s to have faith, to be strong.”
“There were nights I couldn’t sleep, that I prayed to God,” Lopilato shares. “Because it is a long process — but thank God the worst is over.”
She added: “For any parent, it’s devastating to receive news like this. It was very heavy. We received all the prayers, all the calls. The only thing that got me through it was faith, from the very beginning.”
Both Michael and Luisana have revealed the devastating experience left them “stronger” as a family unit.
Michael, 41, recently made an emotional speech about his young family.
Accepting the National Arts Centre Award in Ottawa from the Governor General of Canada, he said: “I stand here truly humbled that I have been allowed to be one of your musical representatives and that you would choose to bestow this honour upon me during what has been an emotionally difficult time for my family.”
“I thank you for the love and support that you’ve given me and for the pride I’m filled with every single time I’m able to stand on a stage and say, ‘My name is Michael Steven Bublé and I am Canadian.’”
Speaking to his family, he added: “There are no words to describe how I feel about you. Sometimes, ‘I love you’ just isn’t enough because what I feel is just so much more.”
Michael is pictured with his wife, Luisana, and their two children, Noah and Elias.
In November, the much-loved couple made the heartbreaking announcement their oldest child was ill.
“We are devastated about the recent cancer diagnosis of our oldest son Noah who is currently undergoing treatment in the US. We have always been very vocal about the importance of family and the love we have for our children,” Michel wrote on his Facebook page.
An update from the crooner has since described the youngster’s condition as “optimistic.”
