A notorious royal dalliance with the help in the 1950s was Princess Margaret’s ill-fated romance with her father’s equerry, Group Captain Peter Townsend. They planned to marry, but as he was a divorced man, the royal family was likely to strip Margaret of her privileges and title she married him.
