In an interview with the Canberra Times the 20-year-old’s mum, Nil, revealed that her son, who has been coach-less since Wimbledon, will be getting mentored from former world number one and reformed wild one, Lleyton Hewitt.
“He will listen to Lleyton because he knows what he’s talking about, he’s been at the top and been world No. 1,” Nick’s mum said to the newspaper.
She added: “What Nick doesn’t like is when people who haven’t been in that situation give him advice, but he’ll listen to someone like Lleyton.”
Lleyton will work closely with Nick as he prepares for the US Open at the end of August.
And after floods of criticism, the young tennis pro’s doting mum thinks Lleyton’s experience as a dad and as a tennis player will be invaluable!
“Lleyton’s been through everything that Nick is going through. We touched base on it after Davis Cup because we knew Nick wasn’t in a good head space, he just wasn’t dealing well with the negative feedback,” Nil explained.
The 34-year-old should have no problems helping Nick on and off the court, as he has managed, along with his wife Bec, to raise three gorgeous kids, Mia,9, Cruz, 6 and Ava 4, with his paternal instincts being a clear advantage.
Here’s hoping Lleyton can help Nick get back on track!
