Lisa Origliasso, one half of hit popmakers, The Veronicas, secretly married her longtime love, Logan Huffman, over the weekend in a dreamy Queensland ceremony.

And though she wore a wedding dress that the star says was inspired by royalty, some might say that the royal in question was a surprising choice.

“This past weekend I got to marry the man of my dreams, in the dress of my dreams,” wrote Lisa, posting a romantic picture of the newly-married couple on Instagram.

Lisa, 33, chose a J’Aton Couture gown, an Australian designer beloved of homegrown stars looking for glamour with a hint of romance to wow on the red carpet – and Lisa’s incredible dress was no exception.

With its dramatic full skirt and unusual neckline, this was a statement dress just as you’d expect from the famously fashion forward singer who teamed up with her stylist Fleur Egan, to look her best on her big day as she married Huffman.

“For my wedding dress I wanted to embody the romance period of the Victorian era, yet still have the forward graces of the ’30s and ’40s,” Origliasso told Vogue Australia.

“Inspired by my heritage from the old countries, my French and Italian ancestries played a big part in choosing the fabrics and intricate details of my veil and accessories.”

With vintage leather gloves from the 1930s and carrying a small posy of lily of the valley entwined with her family’s rosary, the petite songstress stunned with not only her gown but her headpiece and intricately embroidered veil. Both were inspired by Elizabethan style brought bang up to date by being reimagined with leather flowers.

But it was Lisa’s choice of a controversial royal who very nearly brought down the British throne as her major wedding dress inspiration that surprised the most.

For Lisa’s gown was a homage to the style of one Wallis Simpson, the twice married American divorcee who set her sights on Prince Edward, the then Prince of Wales back in the heady 30s.

As next in line to the throne, the idea of a divorcee marrying the prince (the current Queen’s uncle) was simply unheard of and the affair made headlines around the globe before King Edward VIII famously abdicated and fled to France to marry his love in 1937.

Wallis was seen as the epitome of style in her time and it’s these chic lines that Lisa emulated in her choice of gown.

“We loved the idea of my waist being the focus and decided we wanted the dress to have a shape that was timeless and structured without embellishments,” explained the bride.

“The high-framed neckline, stitching on the corset, belted waist, long elegant train and smocking on the skirt were details imagined by J’Aton that perfectly embodied my style and fit in beautifully with our accessories.”

Lisa was walked down the aisle of her beautiful outdoor venue at Secrets on the Lake, an exclusive property on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, by her sister Jess who wore a cream silk tux.

The loving sister sweetly shared a touching video of her twin marrying American actor Huffman, 28, after the couple announced their engagement back in January 2017, writing, “The most beautiful bride I could ever dream of. Lisa Marie Huffman I love you forever my girl.”

Lisa’s marriage comes after a difficult few years for the twins. The girls’ mum Colleen was diagnosed with dementia last year while Jess broke up with her love Ruby Rose in April this year but not before a nasty Twitter stoush had erupted between Ruby and Lisa.

But the girls appear to have put all that behind them with Jess paying tribute to her beloved mum by posting a touching throwback photo of her parents’ wedding with the caption, “Not long now.”

The loving sister also delighted fans by posting pictures of the bridal party readying themselves for the nuptials with one shot captioned, “wedding tan sorted”.

Secrets on the Lake is reportedly where Huffman proposed to his famous bride and as it’s a place which Lisa says she’s loved since she was a child, it makes perfect sense that they would marry there too.

“A month ago he burnt a blood-sucking leech off me while we were camping in the middle of the Queensland rainforest,” Origliasso wrote at the time of their engagement, “then asked me to be with him forever. His love has been life changing.”

Wallis Simpson’s marriage to the former King Edward was not only life changing but history making too, with the pair’s union remaining decidedly turbulent by all accounts. Let’s hope that the similarities between the two couples ends with Lisa’s dress!
