In late 2020, Jaimi Lee Kenny sadly passed away, but her mother Lisa Curry continues to carry mementos of her late daughter to incredible destinations across the globe.
September 14, 2023, marked the third anniversary since Jaimi’s passing. Lisa took to Instagram to share a touching tribute, featuring a special piece of artwork and her initial in the sand.
“3 years ago, our beautiful daughter Jaimi took her last breath,” she began.
“We all love you and miss you everyday Jaimi and hope you’re at peace. It still feels like yesterday.
“It’s been a s–t and sad week, where I’ve needed lots of hugs and constantly wiping my tears away. I tell myself to breathe because I know it’s a bad day, not a bad life.
“I’m doing ok… but feeling sad on the inside while trying to be happy on the outside is overwhelming and feels exhausting. Sometimes I look in the mirror and see a mess, sometimes I see the old Lisa. The path to recovery is long and can only be done in my own time.
“The last 3 years has been a long, slow, painful, uneventful decline in my health and my soul. I talk out loud, frustratingly scolding myself to get my s–t together. There are days when I don’t care about anything.
“I need to change that talk to be more positive and give myself permission that it’s ok to move forward. Moving on doesn’t mean letting go. I will never let her go.”
Lisa continued to highlight she wishes to take more care of herself in order to be “the mother, grannie, wife and friend” she wants to be.
In celebration of what should have been Jaimi’s 36th birthday in June, Lisa shared her tribute which featured two little dolls, flowers, rocks and a gorgeous photo of the mother-daughter duo.
“Happy birthday to my beautiful angel Jaimi,” she wrote.
“One of the things we always did was when we saw something really pretty, a flower, leaf, door, painted toes – whatever, we would always send a photo to each other. In honour of those moments I’ve set up a new insta page so I can post pretty and beautiful things just for Jaimi. It’s a place I can share photos, thoughts, and beautiful things, hoping it can help and bring joy, hope and awe to others, as that’s what I know she wanted.
“Happy 36th birthday my love. Always in my thoughts. Every sunrise, every sunset and everywhere in between.
“I miss you”.
It has become tradition for Lisa to prepare memento’s such as Jaimi’s ashes and mixed dried petals collected from her funeral, pink heart shaped napkins to leave at “amazing” places.
“Warning : Could be upsetting and/or a trigger for some people,” she began on Instagram.
“I decided awhile ago that I would take Jaimi with me to any place that was incredibly amazing. And a couple of Jaimi’s good friends are also taking her with them on their travels.
“Jaimi loved to travel and she travelled many times, with us as a family, on her own and with friends.”
The former swimmer and friends of Jaimi have carried her to Kawana Beach which was her “favourite beach,” Mt Coolum, Paris. Sam Diego, and her current location, Yukon in Canada.
In late 2022, Lisa carried Jaimi 2228 kilometers to the very top of Mount Kosciuszko.
While Lisa has prepared to emotionally carry her daughter to these locations, she admits it has been difficult to leave her. But Lisa assures followers she has learnt some coping mechanisms.
“The grief is ingrained,” she wrote.
“I’ve learnt to cry and let it out whenever I have to, regardless of where I am, who I’m with and what triggered it.
“This time I had one of the huskys, Bagel, to help me, and distract me. She was very inquisitive and wanted to chew the little dolls!
“Jaimi gave me the little dolls, I’m the one with the yellow hair and she’s the pink one as she loved dying her hair pink which really suited her.”
While every grieving parent has their “own ways of remembering those [they] love,” Lisa revealed that “this is [her] way.”
“Our beautiful Jaimi. Never forgotten. Resting. Happy. Free. Forever in nature in the Yukon, Canada”.
