Leonard Cohen’s manager has revealed legendary musician died in his sleep following a fall earlier in the evening.
Robert Kory released a statement on Wednesday and said his client , who was 82 when he died, had suffered a fall late in the evening on the night on Nov. 7 and died later that night in a manner he described as “peaceful”.
Here is his statement, via Cohencentric:
“Leonard Cohen died during his sleep following a fall in the middle of the night on November 7th. The death was sudden, unexpected, and peaceful. He is survived by his children Adam and Lorca, and his three grandchildren Cassius (Adam’s son), and Viva and Lyon (Lorca’s daughter and son).”
Cohen’s family and friends farewelled him at his funeral this past Sunday. His manager said he was buried in an “unadorned pine box, next to his mother and father,” which is “exactly as he’d asked.”
In an ominous October interview for the New Yorker an elderly Cohen talked about getting older.
“I am ready to die,” he said. “I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.”
Following his death photographer Dominique Issermann has released the “Last Photo Of Leonard Cohen” – taken on September 2016 at his Los Angeles home.
Upon hearing the news of Cohen’s passing fellow musician Bette Midler expressed her sadness with a tweet that said Cohen’s passing marked “Another magical voice stilled.”
