Bert and Patti Newton got the best surprise ever when daughter Lauren announced she was expecting her fourth child with former swimmer Matt Welsh.
“For the first time in a while they’re waking up with smiles on their faces,” tells a family friend.
“The pregnancy was a surprise to Bert and Patti. They know how busy Lauren already is with her kids [Sam, seven, Eva, six, and Lola, three], so they were really stunned to get the news.
“But they are thrilled, as they adore their grandchildren – the more the merrier for them!”
The pregnancy couldn’t have come at a better time for Lauren, 36, and husband Matt, 38, who’ve had their share of heartache over the past few years, including Bert’s health scare and brother Matthew Newton’s recent dramas, which saw the troubled actor allegedly rushed to a psych ward. However his lawyer has denied these claims.
