Ahead of the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, the 29-year-old singer shared with her Snapchat fans her personal tribute for the Ziggy Stardust legend – a tattoo!
Lady Gaga showed off her new rib ink of David’s iconic Aladdin Sane album cover, which features a closed-eyed David with a red and blue lightning bolt painted over his face.
The Born this Way singer simply captioned the snap with, “It begins.”
“This was the image that changed my life,” she explained in one of her Snapchat videos.
Fresh from her outstanding Super Bowl performance, it’s clear Lady Gaga is just the right singer for the poignant commemoration.
“We had already booked Lady Gaga on this year’s show, but when David passed – almost in a single moment = we knew we had to change direction,” Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement, via Entertainment Weekly.
“We immediately spoke and agreed that she should be the one to honour David. She’s perfect for it.”
David sadly passed away in January at the age 69 following a private battle with cancer.
Lady Gaga spoke about her love for iconic musician just a few days before his death.
“I always felt that [Bowie’s] glamor was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls,” she said.
“He is a true, true artist… I just know that you can use the theatre of your imagination to entertain people beyond their wildest dreams and then you can put something inside of that that changes the world, and that to me is when you make something truly great as an artist.”
