Lady Gaga joined the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibetan Buddhism to discuss the importance of kindness in a violent world at the US Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis on Sunday.
His Holiness was a keynote speaker at the conference, where he urged leaders to promote human love and compassion “in order to achieve compassionate world.”
He was then joined by the Born This Way singer and billionaire businessman Philip Anschutz on stage to discuss issues of race, sexual orientation and class.
Gaga was then joined by the 81-year-old Tibetan leader backstage for a 20-minute Q&A session, in which the 30-year-old singer asked questions curated from social media about the world’s various issues.
During the session, Gaga said, “As we’re busy trying to figure out which group is causing the problem, evil is winning… we have to change the perspective.”
She also called on mayors to educate youth to act with kindness and compassion.
“We need to educate them. You have the power to be kind to them,” the singer explained.
The Grammy-winner shared a snap of the Dalai Lama holding her hand on Instagram after the event.
“‘Hope is essential to keep the world going.’ – His Holiness the Dalai Lama #withcompassion #usmc2016 #kindyouth,” she captioned the pic.
