Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson are speculated to be considering a change of scenery, with The Financial Review reporting that the two radio personalities are currently in discussions to move The Kyle & Jackie O Show to their former radio network.
The duo began their radio career together in 2005 on Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM morning show, with The Kyle & Jackie O Show finding its new home on ARN’s KIIS FM in January 2014 following reported issues with contract negotiations.
News surrounding the potential move comes amidst rumoured contract negotiations between Sandilands, Henderson and, KIIS FM, with their contract agreement set to expire at the end of 2024.
According to The Financial Review, Southern Cross Austereo have allegedly been “pretty aggressive” in their attempts to entice Kyle and Jackie O to relocate their breakfast show broadcast back to SCA.
“It’s very likely it’ll end up being the biggest talent media deal ever. It’s about more money and making it a bigger show, meaning reaching more markets,” a source told the publication.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show has retained the highest market share in morning radio, with the two hosts maintaining a 15.9 per cent audience share; equating to approximately 900,000 listeners.
The Financial Review reports that Sandilands and Henderson’s existing contract is valued at $8 million annually, with the hosts having renewed their five-year contract with ARN in 2019.
When asked if there was a possibility the duo could soon depart KIIS FM, Sandliands told the Daily Mail “where there’s a till, there’s a way is my motto,” adding, “we’re very happy at KIIS and I can’t see us moving any time soon.”
Sandilands was also questioned about the potential for him to move stations without his co-host however, the assertion was promptly shut down.
“Never! Why? That would be like leaving my own f—ing wife!,” Sandliands stated.
Despite the speculation, ARN chief executive Ciaran Davis stated that ARN were committed to striking a collaborative deal with the hosts, telling The Financial Review that “[ARN] don’t see contract negotiations as being an on-off exercise.”
“Since Kyle and Jackie O have been with us, we have been working very hard to make sure they feel part of a bigger network, and that everybody contributes to that. I don’t think it’s a surprise to us that they have had the highest listenership they have ever had,” Davis added.
Southern Cross Austereo did not provide any further information on the rumoured discussions, with a spokeswoman telling The Financial Review “We don’t comment on speculation.”
