Kirk Douglas is the essence of Hollywood, and he’s still got it!
The legendary actor joined his daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta Jones, who is married to his son Michael Douglas, at the Golden Globes to present the award for Best Screen Writer.
Catherine introduced her father-in-law in a stirring speech.
Wheeling him out onto the stage, the entire room stood up to give Kirk a standing ovation.
She began, “In 1991 my father in law this living Hollywood legend, Kirk Douglas, was recoginised by the writers guild of America for his role in ending the Hollywood black list.”
The Welsh beauty continued, “He not only hired blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo to write the epic Spartacus, he also had Trumbo receive his proper screen credit for his work.”
It was then Kirk interrupted his daughter-in-law to say a few words.
Sadly, the frail legend wasn’t coherent but through his mannerisms, proved to still have his wit and charm in spades.
The darling duo went on to award Martin McDonagh for Best Screenplay – Motion Picture for his film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Just last month in December, Kirk celebrated his 101st birthday.
The screen icon marked the amazing milestone with his wife, Anne, 98, along with family members sons Michael and Joel, and granddaughter Kelsey Douglas.
Catherine was quick to voice her pride over the special occasion, penning on Instagram, “101 today!!!! My darling Pappy on my knee.”
“Happy Birthday to my wonderful, inspirational and loving father in law, Kirk. Love you with all my heart. ❤️#hero”
Catherine and Michael’s son also shared a sweet tribute, musing, “Happy birthday 101 years and still sexy love you with all my heart Pappy,” alongside a photo where he kissed Kirk’s cheek.
