With a net worth of more than $85 million, Kim Kardashian is not used to her business ventures being anything less than a raging success.
So she can’t be pleased with the fact that her book Selfish, featuring page after page of pictures of herself, is hardly walking off the shelves.
Radar Online this morning reports that a mere 32,000 copies have been sold in the US. To put that in perspective, the equivalent of the population of remote Western Australian mining town Kalgoorlie own a copy of the book, which Kim excitedly released in May.
With more than 40m Instagram followers and almost 3000 pictures posted on the social media site – most of them selfies – Kim decided earlier this year to release a 352-page book dedicated to images of herself.
But now, aside from the dismal sales figures, Kim has also been forced to contend with many outspoken online critics.
“A poor tree died for this,” posted one user as a review. Adds another, “There is now tangible, physical proof that society is imploding.”
Kim’s siblings Kendall and Kylie Jenner will be sure to lend a sympathetic ear to their big sis – who is currently pregnant with baby number 2 – since the pair authored their own science-fiction novel Rebels: City of Indra, which sold a paltry 13,000 copies in its first few months on sale.
