With the United Kingdom currently in the throes of all-out political campaign ahead of the upcoming general election in May, in what must be an attempt to reach out to voters, current Prime Minister David Cameron has given an interview to UK gossip mag Heat.
When asked whether he watched Kim K and her family’s reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, PM David Cameron replied: “No, but I’m related to them.”
He continued: “Did you know I’m 13th cousins with them?”
On the prospect of having a family reunion with his buxom cousin, David responded, “I have no plans at the moment but that would be great.”
With the upcoming election, is David Cameron just trying to score points for his party? It certainly couldn’t hurt your profile to associate yourself with the most photographed woman in the world!
Notably, the interview came out on the eve of April Fool’s Day, which does lead to questions of whether it is all just an elaborate prank.
Genealogy website geni.com also states that link is genuine though, with Kim Kardashian and the PM reportedly connected via a mutual ancestor, Sir William Spencer, born in 1555.
Kim’s mum Kris Jenner is known to have Scottish ancestry, while David Cameron also made point of highlighting his own Scottish heritage during the Independence referendum last year.
“My surname goes back to the West Highlands,” he told the British Press at the time.
“The name Cameron might mean ‘crooked nose’ but the clan motto is ‘Let us unite’, and that is exactly what we in these islands have done.”
“I am as proud of my Scottish heritage as I am of my English heritage,”
Kim’s publicist has apparently so far declined to comment. We’ll just have to wait and see if we’ve all been made April Fools!
