Kim Kardashian’s jewellery thieves allegedly staged a conveniently clumsy escape in a bid to trick police into thinking that the gang were armatures, says a Paris official.
The wild theory surfaces as the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star’s diamond cross was apparently found in a neighbouring street where the attack took place.
TMZ claims that Kim’s $43,700 diamond ($USD33,180) crucifix pendant from jeweller Jacob & Co. was found by a pedestrian on October 4, the following day of the horrific heist.
But according to a Paris official, the accessory was not dropped by accident, but rather was placed as part of an elaborate getaway.
According to Us Weekly, the thieves arranged a sophisticated “double bluff” ruse wherein one of the five men fell off his push-bike while another pretended to drop the necklace in their escape.
“They wanted us to believe that they were amateurs, but all the real clues point to them being extremely sophisticated professionals,” the Paris police official told the publication.
“There is no way a gang like this would drop stuff and fall off bicycles — all that was done for any cameras that might be in the area.”
“It is far more likely that they played around on bikes for a few minutes after stealing the jewels, and when they still had their masks on, before they all got into a van and disappeared.”
The gang allegedly chose to discard the necklace as it cashed in at “low value compared to the other pieces in the haul.”
The revelation comes as the star upgrades her security measures to “presidential levels.”
35-year-old Kim will reportedly spare no expense after robbers gagged and tied her up before locking her in the bathroom and making away with a total of 13 items worth $USD14 million, including a $USD5 million ring.
A source close to the mother-of-two revealed to TMZ that her new safety detail will be armed, and that a minimum of two guards will be beside her at all times.
The publication also reported that Kim has met with ex-Israeli army members, ex-CIA agents and former Secret Service agents on the pursuit to ensuring an attack never occurs again.
Meanwhile, Kim’s momager Kris Jenner, who is also looking into new security detail for her other daughters Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie, has broken her social media silence.
On Monday, the Kardashian matriarch took to Instagram with a powerful message about the importance of family.
“Every morning is a reminder of how blessed we are,” the post reads.
“Today I am grateful for my family, who I love more than I can explain. Count your blessings, be grateful always, and cherish every moment you spend with your loved ones.”
While Kim is yet to break her silence, and has no plans to step into the spotlight any time soon, other members of the high-profile clan are set to resume public appearances in the coming weeks.
Khloe, 32, will appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show next week, despite filming for the family’s reality TV show being on hold indefinitely.
