Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s dear husband John Kennerley is still in a serious but “comfortable” condition in an induced coma after suffering a serious neck injury in a balcony fall on Sunday.

The Weekly has learned that Mr Kennerley, who is currently in care at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital, underwent surgery last night but remains on a ventilator this morning.

“An MRI performed late yesterday revealed a bone fracture between C2 and C3. John underwent a lengthy operation last night,” Kerri-Anne’s manager Sean Anderson told The Weekly this afternoon in a statement.

Generally, the higher up the level of the injury to the spinal cord, the more severe the risk of damage. The C2 or C3 are the second and third vertebrae in the spinal column and affect the respiratory muscles and the ability to breathe.

While the surgery overnight went well this morning there were issues removing the machine helping John breathe.

“Doctors tried to remove the ventilator this morning and that was not successful. They will continue to try over the coming days,” Anderson said.

“John is in a comfortable condition and is in the best of hands at Royal North Shore Hospital.

“Kerri-Anne would like to thank everyone for their messages of support.”

John Kennerley was medevaced from Bonville Golf Resort, near Coffs Harbour to receive emergency care at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital.

The couple have been wed since 1994 and the former Chanel 9 Mornings host posted pictures of herself and John celebrating Mardi Gras at the weekend.
