Every part of Keith Urban’s stunning life has been made possible by his beloved father Robert – the man who sewed his costumes in the early days and supported him every step of the way.
On Tuesday, Keith was honoured with an exhibit paying tribute to his stunning career at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, however there was one very important man missing from the ceremony.
If it wasn’t for Robert Urban teaching his son to love country music and relentlessly supporting him, the event wouldn’t have even been possible at all, but the 48-year-old revealed his beloved dad wasn’t in attendance because he has been admitted to hospice care.
“He’s probably only got a few weeks, if that,” a teary-eyed Keith told those who came out to honour him at the event in Tennessee.
“I’ve just been dealing with that the last couple of days. This has all come at a very strange time where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time,” he added.
“So [the exhibit] is bittersweet a little bit because [my dad] is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”
The father-of-two didn’t give any more details on his father’s condition and he didn’t reveal whether he is in hospice care in the US or their native Australia, but Robert is most likely being taken care of by his wife, Marienne Urban.
The exhibition showcases artifacts from the music star’s impressive career, including the costumes made for him by his dad.
“My dad particularly always thought it was important that I dressed like a performer,” he said to the The Tennessean.
“A lot of these country music talent quests I did in Australia, they often had categories for best dressed male or best dressed female and I often won. Sometimes it was the only thing I won,” he added.
There’s no doubt that Keith’s wife, Nicole Kidman will be a great source of support during this difficult time.
Nicole knows that pain of losing a parent all too well after her own father Dr Antony Kidman had a fatal heart attack last year in Singapore.
Our thoughts are with Keith and his family during this difficult time.
