Former Home And Away star Kate Ritchie has been “preparing for the worst” after it was revealed that her husband, former rugby league star Stuart Webb, was facing charges of driving under the influence.

Now, Woman’s Day can reveal Kate’s world has been turned upside down after Stuart pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this month.

And the stress of her husband’s run-in with the law – and another court date looming in July – seems to have taken its toll on 40-year-old Kate.

The Nova radio star was seen looking visibly distressed as she ran errands in Sydney’s Bronte with her four-year-old daughter Mae and mother Heather.

“Kate’s always been adamant about keeping her personal life private, but this situation has just exposed them and caused undue stress,” says an insider.

“She’s determined to keep going about her work and everyday business like normal, but she’s been running around like a single mother and there’s no denying it’s been hard on her.”

With reports of marital problems surrounding the couple for months leading up to Stuart being arrested in late March, an insider says the ordeal has only strained their relationship further.

They initially sparked concerns over their eight-year marriage last year, when they were seen looking tense on Coogee Beach.

Since Stuart’s arrest – in which he was also charged with driving while his licence was cancelled, but is yet to enter a plea on that charge – the couple have not been seen in public together.
